IMPROV SHOTS! 

The Cleveland Improv Institute in association with Cleveland Jams! Cleveland's Weekly Improv Comedy Jam is proud to announce its new Improv Workshop Series "Improv Shots!"
 
Improv Shots! was created for every student  interested in learning and participating in Improvisational Comedy Theater Classes but cannot commit to an 8 week session all at once.  Each workshop is a concentrated shot of improv study that looks at and picks apart the Elements of Improvisation to Scene Creation to Advanced Improv Techniques.  New workshops will be added in the future that will include: Musical Improvisation, Sketch Writing, Improv in Standup and Longform Styles.
 
Improv Shots! are taught by some of the best instructors, directors, performers working in the entertainment arena today!  All workshops are open to everyone from the beginner to the advanced improv actor/actress and everyone in between!

SERIES IV

STARTING IN THE MIDDLE…BUILDING SCENES QUICKLY!  (SM 07)  MARK MCKENZIE Thursday January 10th  (7-9:30pm)  The Powerhouse Pub
Have you ever watched or been a part of an improv scene that took too long to get started? Would you like to create stronger scenes in your own work? This 1 day workshop will explore the elements to creating more vivid scenes quicker and the importance of doing so. With your instructors direction, you will have “hands-on” training regarding this improv principle. You will then be able to apply these skills to your own scene creation!
Req: This workshop is for students with a working familiarity of improvisational fundamentals as well as improv scene creation. 

ELEMENTS OF IMPROVISATION  (EI 07)   TBA

Step into the world of the unpredictable...improvisational comedy!  This 2 day 6 hour workshop throws open the doors of Improvisational Comedy Theater to all that want to advance there craft.  Become more acquainted with the improv trilogy (who, what and where), learn to work more truthfully in scenes and create more vivid environments .  Through fun, exciting, challenging games and exercises you will begin to learn why these elements are the backbone of any great improvised scene.  Through instructor coaching and personal direction you will be able to apply these elements in your own work!  Director of Curriculum Mitchell Fields takes you the student on a fantastic journey of fun and exploration!  This workshop is open to all improvisers with all skill levels of improvisational comedy training welcome. 

SCENE CREATION  (SC 07)  TBA

You and your scene partner are co-workers stranded on a remote island... ready go! 

Seems like a daunting task to create a scene rich with characters, environment, physical action, emotional reality, raised stakes, conflict and all the while staying in the moment out of those 2 given circumstances.  Within this 3 hour workshop you will begin to understand and apply these elements together to form scenes.  You will come to learn that scenes are not just 2 people talking they are much more than that.  Improv scene creation is life created before your eyes!  

Req: This workshop is for students with a working familiarity of improvisational fundamentals and those who desire to perfect there scene work and scene creation skills.    

 

ADVANCED IMPROV TECHNIQUES  (AIT 07)  TBA

This 3 hour workshop is an ever-changing menu designed for the advanced training of the seasoned improv actor/actress.  Students will have the opportunity to focus on one specific area for intensive training each and every (AIT) workshop.  On stage training and hands on instruction from some of the best improv teachers/directors in the business will be  your classroom.  This workshop is for the seasoned improv actor/actress looking to advance there skill and performance level.

***Concentration of this first AIT workshop is (Relationships and working truthfully in the moment). Solid relationships create stronger scenes that move forward.  If you are unsure about your relationship to your partner how can you (the actor/actress) live, work, react and respond to them within the scene truthfully and in the moment?  This specific element will be intensely worked on and studied in this AIT workshop.***
